Personally, I would have preferred to see an eye dropper tool and/or a hex code editor included here, but that is a minor complaint that may not matter for you. A selection of stylish fonts are included to help you match the mood of your image, and text can be displayed in any color you want by selecting a hue from the color palette panel. You can also add text with the handy text tool. The effects tab lets you choose from dozens of different filters that can give your image a whole new look. If you like your Instagram filters, you will find plenty to play with here too. You can also take advantage of the social media crops that will resize an image and optimize it to display properly on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or LinkedIn. The crop tool lets you rotate, flip and straighten your image, as well as crop it to one of seven preset image ratios.
If you’re a little overwhelmed by the number of adjustments you can make, you can try the Auto Fix tool to see if Pixlr’s algorithms can give you a good starting point. Pixlr X has all the basic adjustments you would expect from a well-rounded online photo editor, as well as some you might not like curves and a dehaze tool. Making adjustments is as simple as moving a slider left or right. It has a selection of sliders and panels on the side of your image. The interface reminds me a lot of Adobe’s Lightroom, and that’s probably no accident, because it’s a well-loved and easy to use design. It even comes with a handy Dropbox extension that lets you open an image from your Dropbox account online, make some edits, and save it right back to where you started. It comes with a host of powerful editing tools to enhance your images and make them look their best. It is free to use and can be used without a login or online account. It doesn’t use Flash, like some of Pixlr’s other offerings, and it works on all browsers, including iPads and phones. Pixlr X is a brand new editor that was built for the modern web. Last month, they unveiled Pixlr X, and I think it might be my favorite one to date. Their next release was Pixlr Express, a more simple editor that anyone could use for quick fix and easy filters and effects. Pixlr started their journey with a free online alternative to Photoshop. I have been using them on and off for several years now, and I keep coming back to them despite having access to more powerful brand name equivalents from Adobe and others.
